Welcome!

Welcome to the Save Social Security blog. This blog was established to document exactly where each representative and senator in the 109th Congress stands on Social Security "privatization", a.k.a. Social Security abolition.

UPDATE: Josh Marshall has come up with a better system than this, so I've decided to shut this one down. Thanks to everyone who helped. I've been amazed at the level of support I've gotten, and the volume of e-mails, but I can no longer keep the site going alone. Thanks for your support.

Just wrote Nadia Velasquez (NY-12) to ask her position, will let ya know. Also might wanna consider using haloscan for comments (just a suggestion, I hear it works better than blogger's).

I would be very surprised if Charlie Rangel, my congressman, supports the President's position on Social Security (or much of anything else, come to that) but I will write and check.

I am pretty sure Mike McNulty will be against privitazation, but he has voted for Republican/Conservative causes in the past, so will check and get back.

I have written confirmation from Congressman McNulty (NY-21) that he does not support privitization of Social Security. Received this confirmation on December 27, 2004.

I just phoned Senator Schumer's office and they said he hadn't released a statement on this yet. So they wouldn't say he was against privitization. That sounds ominous to me.

I told them I'd leave the Democratic Party and I'd never vote for him again if he didn't save SS in its current form. I want him to WIN on this one. Nothing less is acceptable.

As a lot of people have been saying, if the Dems can't defend this program, then they don't stand for anything anymore.

No news on where Sue Kelly (19th) stands. But as a former chair and current member of the Financial Services committee and the fact that Financial Services PACs gave her a lot of money for the 04 election (where she outspent her unfunded opponent to the tune of $1M to $80K--shameless!), I'm sure we can use deductive reasoning to figure it out.
